Special Meeting In Ft. Nelson Today

Fort Nelson, BC. - Mayor Morey and the Regional Council will host a Public Meeting today about Canfor’s January 18th  announcement  of the indefinite closure of the Tackama and Polar Board mills, the primary employer in the community

The closures will have a direct impact on  435  people who will lose their jobs, and indirect impact on 170  constractors and subcrontracts.  That means about  22% of the working populaton of Fort Nelson will be impacted.

The public meeting today will  take place at  the Fort Nelson High School Gymnasium  and will  include  Mayor Morey,  representatives from the  Regional Council, MLA Richard Neufeld, Minister of Forests and Range Rich Coleman,  MP Jay Hill , Steelworkers Union, as well as other delegates and agencies to  talk with members of the community about the  programs and services available.
