Teachers In Court For Penalties

The BC Teachers Federation will be in B.C. Supreme Court today to find out the repercussions for violating the Labour relations Board, and disobeying the Supreme Court which upheld the LRB's order for the teachers to stay on the job.
It is expected the fines will be hefty, as there are some estimates the Teachers Federation is paying upwards of $2 million dollars a day in strike pay.

Other developments:

The Labour Relations Board has dismissed a BC Teachers Federation application for reconsideration.

This means an appeal will not be heard into last week's LRB ruling deeming the walkout illegal

The City of Prince George is sending out a reminder that all community programs operated in School District 57's facilities are cancelled.  So the aerobics class, or art class, or special interest program you may have signed up for through Leisure Services, will be cancelled until the teachers job action is over.

Education Minister Shirley Bond stirred the pot by saying the government will do whatever it can to protect those teachers who want to cross the picket line and return to work, but School District 57 doesn't seem to think any schools would be reopened any time soon as its latest message on its website says no school for the rest of the week.

Teacher Federation President Jinny Simms says "The minister here is using some very inflammatory language, she claims that she has all these teachers who are phoning her. Well when I visit picket lines and the report backs we're getting from our picket lines that our members are strong, they're united, they're collected."

The BCTF has duped it's members. This has nothing to do with teachers or students. This is strictly a politcal move by the Union to discredit the Government. The BCTF has been at the barganing table for months but they have not budged off of their origanal proposal. That is not what I would call barganing. In barganing there is give and take.
It was the BCTF that walked away from the table. And now they are saying that they have been barganing for 16 months. I believe that their plan has always been to push this right to the limit, and that is why they refused to bargan.
The BCTF is providing a huge disservice to the teachers and they are falling for it.
I applaud the Government.
Making deals with people who break serious laws is just nuts.
So right on Shirley Bond and Gordon Campbell for standing your ground.

When you break a law is bad enough, but to then defy a court order is just so incredibly wrong !

Arest the law breakers, and fine them, give them a criminal record.

Its what they deserve for knowingly breaking the law.
The Liberal government is out to crush organized labour and the BCTF is 1# on their hit list. If you want to see class sizes hit 40 and profesional educators become glorified babysitters, just keep doing what your doing. The next generation of BC teachers will move to other provinces and leave the Liberals with the mess they deserve.
Marty...IS Your last name CAMPBELL or is it BOND
I think pretty much everything that could be said has been. Now it is time to wait for the court's decision. I presume large fines will be imposed.

What happens if the Teachers refuse to pay them, or pay the fine but stay out? What's the government's next move?
If it is not about the money - howcome money is always at least "ONE" of the issues? How come teachers (or anyone else for that matter) never strike in the winter? One more point...they are OUR kids being taught, howcome WE don't get a say?? Oh ... that's right, we DID get a say...when we voted in a government who promised NO EDUCATION CUTBACKS....
gggGamble, your bang on bud, this Jinny Simm IMO is a twit she has sold her members a bill of goods that she cannot deliver. As far as applauding the goverment,I wouldn't go that far.Gordie told us that he wouldn't allow the teachers to use our kids as pawns in a labour dispute.Well Gordo the time has come for your goverment to start throwing these law breakers in jail, the BCTF has forced your hand it's time to lower the boom.
ROCK
hey rock--I've got a good idea. Let's throw all the lawbreakers in jail. That will put The whole liberal govt in as well as the teachers. That will leave YOU to deal with your kids and I know that you will be real happy paying a gov't to educate your kids and at the same time paying a private school to educate them. I suppose when this happens the city will give you a rebate on your school taxes too. You got your head up your --- ?
Supertech,

what school do you teach at?
I assume you are not one of the ones crossing the picket lines.
But am glad to see you are so above the law that you freely decide which laws to break.

Gee, i guess we should all just do the same, only abide by the laws that we feel like following.

Well its free lunch for me i guess today.....now which restaurant to skip out on the bill from ? HMMMMMMMM

Oh ya, my kids are in a private run Christian school, and still in class !
Supertech, relax bud it's just my opinion. There are alot of laws I don't like either speeding ticket fines /seat belt fines for example, but when I got the bill the other day for $501.90 from ICBC,I pay it and that's it,the law is the law ,why do these teachers have different rights than the rest of us?IMO the BCTF is a corporation shaking down the goverment and in the process using our kids as pawns,Gordie knew it was coming so they as a democratically elected goverment they created laws to avoid this situation. Now what upsets me is that the goverment has been pushed into a corner and they have not come out swinging....yet.As far as my head goes it is where it is and "some couldn't make it as a school teacher" ain't going to change it.
