Argggh! Everything that has to do with Big Oil, the BC Liberal Government and there carbon tax and pay before you pump law, Kinsley and his holiday trips. Rising taxes in every sector, user fees. Argggh!
Any one on this site bothered by container trains shunting during the night?
Foo738.. This is a railroad town, get used to it.
Im just happy its spring and friday! Im not really concerned about commenting on politics today. Have good weekend Ladys and Gent. Cheers!
pot holes......need I say more
Yes, I'm very concerned about the number of trains shunting because of the increase in noise, and the resulting pollution.

As I understand it, diesel is incredibly harmful and carcinogenic - so here we have it with PG being a lapdog once again, taking it on the chin, sucking it up as more industrial pollution spews into our airshed. Surely there are alternatives - electric?

I see CN activity as the next big move for air quality improvement once we see some point source data that will show the major contributors. It's not just diesel, it's an increase in the dust at their container site as well. who knows what's going into the ground over there from spillage?

And no, we should not 'just get used to it'. That's why people leave this place - because we roll over rather than insist on improvements!
"once we see some point source data that will show the major contributors"

Be ready for a surprise as to who the major contributors are. CN will be a miniscule blip.

I disagree with the lack of respect for the democratic process. As the final stages of planning for the Friendship Lodge are completed, I am reminded that the Miller/Cannaught residents voices were ignored on this issue. I would have to agree with the concept of this facility as it is needed in Prince George but not at the expense of our Democratic Rights as citizens to voice our opinions and concerns and expect have them heard.
While I have no issue with freedom of speech and being able to communicate, I have huge issues with this. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=8565568291

If you can't reach the link go on facebook and search for "Free Bill Noble", where you will be greeted to excerpts from letters Mr. Noble has written. I am not sure of the particulars of Mr. Noble's sentence, but I do know that he is in prison after being found guilty of criminal activity.

Why is he allowed to continue spouting off white pride propaganda from a jail?

Inquiring minds want to know.
Has anyone noticed that when the BC Liberal government started advertizing on TV the so called "Best Place on Earth" that the first few commercials had a shot of Mr PG?

Well that shot is gone and there is nothing promoting the so called "Heartlands" of B.C. on the new commercial. Take our money and get rid of the advertizing. We just supply our tax dollar to the real B.C. in their eyes (The Lower Mainland)

Whoops sorry about the double post
I'm with acrid er, all of that, and more;
Potholes, speeding drivers in town, anything and everything to do with the illegal drug trade, especially crack and meth, civic politics, legalized gambling
(bring back illegal gambling, it hurt fewer people) traffic control lights at too many intersections on throughfares, over taxed alcohol, and, all the people out there, white, brown, red or yellow, who seem to think that this country owes them something, get off it, get out, and hustle. Make your self useful to society you lazy piece of ---------finally, to the ever brilliant government for setting up, maintaining, and even promoting the kind of thinking that brings some people to the point where they think we owe them something.
Thank you for listening.
metalman.
I don't much care for socialism. :)>
Death to Socialism, you got a medical card in your pocket? You going to collect your old age pension? Sorry dude but you are a socialist.
Not by choice, amigo.
The following letter was submitted to 250 from the Canadian Cancer Society in Vancouver for posting

March 27, 2008

Dear Editor:

A majority of BC residents support a call by the Canadian Cancer Society for new provincial legislation that would restrict the sale and use of cosmetic (non-essential) pesticides, according to an Ipsos Reid poll conducted for the society’s BC and Yukon division.

On April 3rd, the Canadian Cancer Society will release these poll results at a breakfast in Victoria, and ask the MLAs to pass legislation that would reduce the environmental and health impacts of cosmetic pesticides.

The Canadian Cancer Society is very concerned about the use of potential cancer-causing substances for the purpose of enhancing the appearance of private lawns and gardens as well as public parks and recreational facilities, when safe, effective alternatives exist. Since the cosmetic use of pesticides is non essential, and has the potential to cause harm, the Canadian Cancer Society calls for a ban on the use of cosmetic pesticides on private and public lands.

There is a growing body of evidence linking pesticide exposure to both adult and childhood cancers, and taking action to phase-out the cosmetic use of pesticides on private and public lands is a preventative measure that can help to reduce British Columbians’ exposure to potential cancer-causing substances in pesticides and create a healthier environment.

Research shows that pesticide restrictions have been very successful in reducing cosmetic pesticide use when coupled with public education. Further, in regions across Canada that have pesticide bylaws, businesses have shifted successfully to non-toxic alternatives, and the sales and offerings of non-toxic alternatives are growing.

The public’s concern over environmental exposures is growing, and the Ipsos Reid poll shows that the majority of British Columbians believe that pesticides pose a threat to their health and to the environment. Over 130 municipalities across Canada, including 12 in British Columbia and the entire Province of Quebec, have implemented bylaws restricting cosmetic pesticide use.

The BC government has shown leadership on environmental issues and a commitment to environmental stability. It can build on this leadership by eliminating the current patchwork of municipal pesticide bylaws that currently exists by passing province-wide cosmetic pesticide legislation. The Canadian Cancer Society
On my ICBC Renew Notice. I noticed just above important information... A TAX..It is Called a Premium Tax On My renew it is $32.00 on my wife's Renew it is 63.00 The notice says its a Premium Tax of 4.45%...What the hell is this Tax.
Is anyone actually going to participate in this idiotic blackout thing tomorrow?
what really bothers me are people that hide behind online names and make some really ridiculous/hurtful comments without thinking about what they are saying and how their comments may impact the people they are making them about!!
Death to Socialism one thing I will agree with you on, I'll have every light including xmas lights on for my hour.
My problem is the usual heartlands complaint...no one in Vancouver/Victoria seems to know we exist. I heard some yahoo on the run of the river proposal that has seemed to be shot down for the Upper Pitt saying that for hydro, all we should do is put another dam on the Peace where no one will care about it. Love the environmental NIMBY movement down there....out of sight, out of mind
Again I ask, with the new upcoming ""carbon tax"" (fuel tax really) coming in June, will the GST be added before this tax is added onto my gas or after the tax has been added on the total. I hate to think I will be paying the Feds GST on our unique carbon tax. But then again, nothing much these days surprises me. Too many rules, too many taxes and too many laws. Grrrrr.
Seems to me according to today's paper there are ten households in Pineview kinda resisting a re-zoning proposal there. Let me put your mind at ease. Ten households? Extrapolated into votes this means about six of ém who bother to vote in elections. Six voters won't sway this rubber stamping council. They are gonna be re-zoned. Who do you think runs this place? Voters? Not six, anyway.
Read an article in the National Post about how everyone is coming on board in developed countries and enlightened companies for this lights out business, Being a global warming/climate change denier is becoming almost as unpopular as being a Holocaust denier. Ah, the power of leading sheep. That was easy.
Am I opinionated or what, eh?
As a sign of protest and respect for the fate of the Tibetans who are presently being shot at and arrested in their own homeland the Mayor and his escorts should have aborted their planned trade mission visit to China.

In my opinion, anyways. Obviously human right issues are far more important than trying to sell some more 2x4 lumber!

We need an economy. We need to sell things, as we are merchants, but are we in control of our economic future?
Are we making sure the air we breath is acceptable. Are we sure that the price we pay for selling our resources is acceptable. When you look back in history is the price they paid acceptable? They always said the pulp mill smell was the smell of gold. Integrity and our land are very valuable. Are the people we elect listening and voting on our values?
I think we have little time left to ponder these things as our environment is at rist. Our political might is diminished. We are tangled up in details and not getting back to basics and taking care of Prince George.
Stop worshipping money.

The Bible is exactly correct, that the love of money is the root of all evil. When it comes to money, humans will do ANYTHING to get their hands on the stuff: clear cut entire forests; dredge all life from the oceans; turn the air into cancer; sell any drug, legal or illegal; enslave other humans; degrade the animal kingdom; sell our bodies... on and on and on. All for dead paper.

And I get the strange looks when I point out the truth. Insanity... if only we could make a buck off of it.
Psychiatrists do, Kevin1006!
Tickets for traffic infractions resulting in fines, which are paid promptly and cleared up are now followed up with an additional bill from ICBC - another penalty on top of it. What's that all about?
I agree with Diplomat on the Tibet issue. Has everyone forgotten that China invaded Tibet and annexed it? Is the West so devoid of commitment to another nation's integrity that they will pander to the invader and ignore the wishes of the invaded nation's will?

Oops, did it agin, sorry.
They really need to give us some edit/delete tools on this site.
Spring is here ...... the daffodils and tulips are out at the grocery stores .... another two months and they will be out in our yards ... maybe ...

:-)
What pi--es me off are all of the notices of sales, concerts, up comming events and other trivia tacked or stapled on power poles in the city. What a mess...should be outlawed.
Post NO Bills
This is from accuweather, their blog on climate change-

"Gore has donated significant profits from hisbook and Oscar winning documentary film "An Inconvenient Truth" to the Alliance for Climate Protection, which will begin a new 300 million dollar ad campaign on global warming next week, according to the 60 Minutes article.

By the way, Gore's Nashville home, which has been a target of criticism in the past, is now refitted with roof solar panels.

Our own long-range weather expert Joe Bastardi posted a strong response to Al Gore in his blog on AccuWeather.com Professional. I will post his response over the weekend".

So folks the people who believe in and are making a lot of money from so called man caused global warming are getting worried about the real science comming out disproving their claims. If they will spend 300 million on this it shows just how much they are making. For any one wanting more information check this website and its links. icecap.us This is information not found in mainstream media.
a fine is a tax for doing wrong, a tax is a fine for doing good....where do we get anything??let get campbell and kinsley out (yea I know I didnt capitalize thier names, they dont deserve it)
Also, Diplomat wanted to know when the Province was going to put pedestrian overpasses on every block and make 2 mile long turning lanes mandatory on the bypass ?

Some of us need more time to decide if we are going to turn or not, I guess ??
I always enjoy coming to Opinion 250 for a bit of stress relief and hopefully some knowledge too.
I have my favorite posters that I look forward to seeing/reading what views they may have.
I have however noticed in the past month-spring fever perhaps, who knows. Anyhow there are a lot of posts that are getting rude, I am seeing more personal attacks towards posters rather than the 'good old opinionated debates' over matters we feel passionate about.
Ben does a great job of staying on top of the crap and dealing with these individuals. I suppose they are everywhere...but I just wish we could tone it down a bit...and get back to debating on subjets of concern.
I was enjoying my daffodils which are up and in full bloom, but we had a dump of snow all day today. I really hate that stuff.
After recieving a traffic ticket, I thanked the Mountie while he was walking away. I said, " Thanks for not tasering me". Somehow I have no respect for the RCMP anymore. Call it guilt by association, but I feel strongly about being nice and cordial with someone who associates with people who kill and get away with it. A shot to the back of the head (self defense) and tasering people who die. It just doesn't sit well with me.
This is for anyone who may be interested in the airport expansion. Although it is going to bring a lot of positives to PG there are a few negatives. Yes, most of those negatives effect the area surrounding the airport, but there are people who LIVE in the surrounding area.

The warehousing and transportation depots that are going to be built are planned for the field directly across from my home. Airplanes will be taxiing directly to those buildings. In the plans there is going to be a dangerous goods route that runs past my children's bus stop.

I have a few more points but running on just seems to loose peoples interest,so I leave you with a couple thoughts. We have been informed that there isn't much we can do to change the airport plans, agreed. We do need someone to consider that these changes are going to make our lives much more difficult.

We will be at the city council meeting on March 31. We want to be heard. We want to be considered. We have our lives here, and didn't think it would be changed so drastically by the airport expansion. Maybe it was a little naive, a little trusting, but we honestly thought we would be considered in the plans.
I just thought of something. Those new fangled light bulbs with a pinch of mercury in each one? Why, one could just get an armful of them little things and break them wherever. Mercury pollution. Haz-mat teams working overtime. Why, we don't need no stinkin'guns with a weapon like that. You heard it here first.
seamutt and Death to Socialism I am with you. !!
I'm on a roll. FYI a while back I read an article in a newspaper about a guy who decided to fix a pothole. He got arrested and had to go to court. Apparently it was against the law to mess with city property. I never did read how it turned out.
Yes it does seem to me the RCMP are getting away with unruly behavior!
Killing people is "unruly behaviour"? Wow!! I guess there is a lawyer somewhere who exists who could put that kind of spin on it. I would hire him for myself if I could afford it.
Who kills and gets away with it? Didn't see anyone charged with murder despite the bazillion investigations into these types of incidents. Don't attack the police and you won't get hurt. Pretty simple formula. Some people never learn I guess. Good comment about the ticket Harbinger. I can only assume the officer chalked it up to another PG meathead and counted the days until he/she could get transferred to civilization.
FUEL PRICES?
I walked by the diesel pump at Mr G's, across from the Hart Centre, this afternoon and I noticed that diesel fuel price is $128.9 cents per litre while gasoline price is $118.9 cents per litre. Does anyone have a explanation for this huge difference in price between the two fuels?
the reasonableman: "Also, Diplomat wanted to know when the Province was going to put pedestrian overpasses on every block and make 2 mile long turning lanes mandatory on the bypass ?"

Hilarious! Just one overpass at 8th Avenue across the bypass! And no turning lanes that are shorter than 1 vehicle length, please!

Diesel fuel has a higher energy content per unit than gasoline. That's why the ripoff artists want more moolah for it!

Happy travels!
I wouldnt worry to much about the Airport Expansion. This was the dumbest idea ever conceived in Prince George. The Airport it self says that at best the are hoping for four cargo jets per day to land here for fueling over the next 10 years, and hope at some point to get some air cargo. I doubt if this will ever happen.

The Rempel project behind the Airport has more to do with the connector road from Highway 16 West to 97 North and South. We will probably see a huge truck stop in that area along with a Hotel, or Motels, Restaurants etc;

NEWS FLASH
Budget proposals/requests already floating around for a 150,000 square foot warehouse off of Gunn Rd. Construction to start fall of 2009
It was said to me that RCMP members don't like to be transfered to places that start with Prince or Fort.
tceperley I care that you haven't been consulted and that your home is going to lose its' sanctity. I just thought I would like to tell you that.

I'm thinking it was in PG because looking at the potholes here, it appears that it is even illegal for the city of PG to mess with city property, LMFAO.

Chilako Pete wrote

Thats the problem these days Chilako, you don't actually have to attack the police and you get shot or tasered.
I know people who knew both Ian Busch and the cop. Both of them were trouble, however Ian didn't deserve to be shot in the back of the head, especially when the jail cell video camera wasn't working for the hour Ian was in custody.
I see the city is looking for more 4x4 trucks. I think they shouldn't get 4x4's unless it is for the fire department. If more of the city staff had to drive these streets with the poor snow clearing and getting stuck and inconvenienced then maybe the city would understand how poorly they clear the streets. Instead just about every city vehicle is an expensive to maintain 4x4.
So our solicitor general John Les has been under police investigation for almost a year regarding him possibly benefitting from land deals in Chilliwack when he was the mayor there. We are only hearing of this today. Very interesting
Why is handling airport cargo going to be more dangerous in Prince George than it is at all the rest of the airports around the world?

The Gunn Road houses are on the edge of the airport, backed by a couple autowreckers and on the road to jail. It's a little late to be worried now. The new hangers and handling facities will probably be an improvement in safety at least. If those shacks on Gunn Road were fixed up there could be good rental potential for workers in that area.

I guess it'd take one to know one. We can't wait until you get transferred either. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Thanks for coming.
"It was said to me that RCMP members don't like to be transfered to places that start with Prince or Fort."

That is why the changed the name of Fort William to Thunder Bay .... ;-)
