Architectural rendering of  seniors’ complex planned for  Austin Road West

Prince George, B.C. - There will soon be construction starting on new independent living apartment units for seniors.  The development is set for a lot on Austin Road West.

Peace Valley Enterprises proposes developing two units on the .4 hectare property.  Each unit will house six apartments for seniors and the  units will be affordable. Trent MacLaren , of  Peace Valley  Enterprises, says the units will range from  918 to 940 square feet.

The open concept design  will be ground level and built to be wheelchair accessible.  MacLaren says he visited a local  seniors complex to find out what seniors wanted.  He says the seniors gave him advice and were  happy to hear the  development was planned for the Hart as they expressed concerns about  air quality.

He says he hopes to start the first phase in June.

City Staff asked that final reading be witheld until a restrictive covenant is placed on the property ensuring that the buildings do not exceed 1 1/2 storeys  or 8 meters high.

MacLaren says the height restriction is not an issue, "We are building single level units, we are trying to eliminate stairs."

Did our idiot city people listen to what that man said? Single storey, wheelchair friendly units. The city people say they can't exceed 1.5 storeys!!

See what I mean? Our city councillors get up in the morning, take a stupid pill, and arrive at work! All they have to do is arrive. They don't listen, they don't think and they're impeding a well researched and well thought out project.
How did we ever arrive at this juncture with our city politicians? We really have to pay close attention to our next municipal election. Let's get some thinkers in there!
Way to go ffr...aren`t you assuming that is the issue with the 1.5 storey???

Mighten it have more to due with height restrictions for the neighbourhood???

I do not know, but your may have shot off a toe or two.

Can you back up your rant with anything more than mental diarehea???

Sorry I didn't weigh in here sooner...been kinda busy.....

A couple of points: It was CITY STAFF not a councillor!
I must agree with faithfulreader on this one tho runner. I can see verifying the height requirement, but to delay the reading thereby delaying ACTION again boggles the mind.
Note to city staffer: If we don't have all the facts here, please enlighten us. If however this was a misunderstanding, you are forgiven. On the other hand, if you are choosing to play "god" here: SHAME ON YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE IMPEDING OUR CITY's GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT!!!
We do need a new city council, don't we? We must all try not to forget this in November.
Glad to note that the accommodation is at ground level and not several stories high. There had been too much "warehousing" of seniors in PG. i.e. Alward Place and new Northern Health complex off 10th and Burden.
