Crocus flowers are popping up in the least likely spot

PRINCE GEORGE. B.C. -  Never mind the weather, igonore the fact that  Prince George  is expected to set new records this weekend for Cold temperatures.

Someone in the City  has sparked a little sunshine by providing a sure sign of spring for all to share.

At the corner of 5th and  the Bypass,  crocuses have been pushing their way up.

(at right,  photo shows the  white crocus flowers  that are among the "crop" that is  flourishing on the south west corner)

Turns out the bulbs were planted in the fall of 2006 by the Drug  Awareness Recovery Team..  They failed to  show in the Spring of ’07 ( not that anyone can recall seeing them)  but here we are in the Spring of ’08 and they are popping  up.

Some calls to Opinion 250  say  they spotted the flowers, and thought of them as a  sign of "Hope" that spring  really will arrive here,  soon.

The Drug Awareness Recovery Team, (DART)  has landed a contract with the City  to  look after three of the four entry signs in the City.  The one at the  base of First Avenue will be maintained by City employees.

Yup they look good But I bet some little prick will come along and rip them out.
They'll be froze solid this morning
It is sad, but that is exactly what went through my mind wrinkledawg when I saw them. the city should be doing something better w/ those areas anyway. I love the flowers taht mysteriously popped (the myster is now solved), but something permanent would look nice on such a major intersection.
Great inspiration and so easy to plant, beats flower baskets!
They are so uplifting.
It would be nice to see more of these kind of flowers instead of just a lawn.
They much more eye catching, than the
hanging baskets. (may also be cheaper)
Should've planted the lawnmower-resistant variety.
Crocuses ain't poking through the grass. A close up would infer a gravel pit. Dirty city.
Hopefully more will be planted in other areas of the city
They are a lot cheaper than hanging baskets. They don't last very long but they are well worth it for our first springtime (what's that?) flower. They would almost have to be treated as an annual and planted every year because you're right Moses the lawn mower will finish them.
Quesnel used to have petunias planted along their boulevards and it was certainly eye catching. Perhaps beds of crocus followed by petunias would give us a lift. Make us proud of our City.
That intersectiion is worth an investment
They are crocus' and they are very resilant, and will be back every year from now till the end of time!! I grew up in Saskatchewan and they are like beautiful weeds that come back year after year and thicker every year!! they are beautiful and I have to say the first day they appeared over a week ago, sure brought a smile to my face!! and wonderful memories to mind!!

Congrats to DART!! they are beautiful, and thankyou!!
