Prince George is one of several cities around the province to benefit from increased funding to the Emergency Shelter Program.

Following through on a promise made last December, Minister Responsible for Housing, Rich Coleman, has announced the liberal government is spending $2.1 million dollars on 391 shelter beds across B.C..

Our city will receive just under $80 thousand dollars, which will translate into 25 cold/wet weather beds from now until the end of April.  No word just yet on which specific local group will receive the funding.

HOW about some HELP,to help us HEAT our homes, WE pay TAXS the homeless do not, It makes me mad that the people that do not want to work, get help, but working taxs payers do not.
Chill out $80,000 is not a large amount of money. My guess is those that benefit from the beds have mental issues, or are victims of some other type of discrimination. I wouldn't want my society to be responsible for their deaths when it drops below freezing.

The home heating issue is another issue entirely, and you have a legitimate grievence on that front.
Last winter I decided to help with the Sally Ann Kettle campaign. I didn`t realize how damn cold it can be standing outside for four hours. I can only imagine what it would be night after night with little or minimal heat. I do not begrduge this amount of money. We need to do more in this area, despite what we see on the streets.
Whether or not people can or can't help themselves is irrelevant. It reflects poorly on us, as a society, if we do not help those less fortunate. Understand, I'm no idealist and I too have my own gripes and issues about how tax dollars are spent. I won't however feel outrage that our city is receiving 80K in funds to help a homeless shelter.
I don't mind this until it's out of the Prince George pocket only--then I get upset
I am all for helping the less fortunate. I do look after the widows and orphans. I contribute to those who feed the hungary. We have giving hearts in this comminity and many people serve in many ways to care for the less fortunate.

I support the efforts to give a person a hand up, but not an ongoing hand out.

I suspect that circumstance affects many for a period in their lives where they are left without food and lodging. But, we need to find ways of helping them help themselves. Much needs to be done. Much garbage could be picked up. PG could be a much more attractive place if more of these folks provided something of value in return for their basic necessities. Is that really to much to ask for or expect? I've been told that it is, but I disagree.
