Two For Sure In Mayors Race
By Ben Meisner
There will be a great deal of pontificating over the announcement by Colin Kinsley that he will not seek the Mayor's job come this fall.
Dan Rogers who ran against Kinsley in the last election will seek the job again, as will Don Zurowski.
It has been rumored for years that Zurowski became the "Job Shadow" to Kinsley after he did not run against him in the last election.
Rogers, who dropped his hat into the ring at the last moment last time 'round, did not and will not receive the blessing of Kinsley, a blessing that might do any candidate more harm than good.
There is an interest out there to see if a candidate can be found who is totally outside of the Civic government scene. Someone who could come forward with brand new ideas, brand new directions in which to go.
That mood in the community could also spill over into the current crop of Councilors and, save a couple, they all could face the wrath of the voters come election night.
What will set the stage will be the number of new people trying for a seat on council. Name recognition plays an important role in how the people vote and if a large slate turns out, that augers well for those seeking to return to council.
So far there has been no block buster name come forward that could knock the pants off either of those who will; be in the running; the next few months will tell the tail as those who are interested test the water.
I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.
