Telus can expect a call from Prince George City Council.

Mmembers of the Telecommunications Workers Union, asked Council to have a chat with Telus.

Council will oblige by asking Telus to sit down and talk about the success of the call centre here, and encourage expansion.

Even though the TWU has a tentative agreement (ratification to be complete by the end of this month)  there are still concerns  many jobs will be contracted out to other communities, and possibly other countries.

The offer states no employee will be laid off as a direct result of contracting out. The union fears employees may be shuffled to other areas, and then laid off.

Union rep Lorri Ruggles says the union beleives that if they vote to accept the contract, there will be substantial job loses in the lower mainland.  If they reject the  deal, she says there are threats of closing hundreds of offices and loss of thusands  of jobs in B.C.

She points out that ten years ago there were more than 600 phone company workers in Prince George, now there are 300, and that number could be cut in half, pulling another 6 million dollars from the local economy.

Well actually that's not true. The work is still there, its just that they don't work for Telus. I always use a small company in town for my repairs and reno's, but his company is getting so darn busy. Brian Skacken is being misled and used by his union friends, that's what it's all about.
HMMMMMMMM.

So a business wants to conduct business how it sees fit?
Is that not its right. Or should the emlpoyess control the busineses now, and tell them how to run their ship.

May i suggest, since these employees appear to be experts on the best way to run a telecommunications business, that they open their own in competition against Telus !
Should be wonderful since they have it all figured out already how its best to operate it.

Good luck with the new venture you all.
