Several organizations have come forward to provide some free bus and car transportation to the Save Our Community Rally in Mackenzie on Friday, May 23.

The Mackenzie rally, which is a non-partisan event and is being organized by Mackenzie residents, has the aim of fostering community to community solidarity in our region in the face of the worst downturn in the forest industry in living memory. Thus the Mackenzie organizers are inviting people from communities across the region to attend.

In that spirit, the Stand Up For The North Committee, the Faculty Association of CNC, and the Prince George & District Labour Council have donated almost $2000 to assist people to travel from other communities in the region to the rally. Several other organizations are expected to donate funds also.

According to Julie Carew of the Stand Up for the North Committee, a bus will be traveling on Friday morning, May 23 from Prince George to Mackenzie, which people can reserve seats on (the bus will return the same day), and there may also be some funds available to pay for gas to assist people in traveling from other communities such as Vanderhoof, Fort St. James, Chetwynd, Quesnel, and Valemount.

A barbecue lunch is also being provided by the Mackenzie organizers.

People who are interested in getting free transportation to the Mackenzie rally on May 23 should phone: (250) 562-0015 or email: peter.ewart@shaw.ca

I wish them well with being able to save that community!! I lived in Mackenzie for 4 years and LOVED IT wouldn't have moved if my job wasn't privatized out and the economy was more stable!!

I will be travelling there in support
Yep... and us Rabbitts are going too. MacK has always been a great place... mainly because of the terrific people there.

:-)
I wish I could go,but not going to happen.
I hope they get a great turnout and send a strong message that these communities affected by the forestry collapse need help and support from government and industry alike.
CBC will be there too.
