Prince George, B.C. - An on-line petition has started in an effort to save the Hockey Night in Canada Theme.

With a goal of 100,000 signatures, the petition (available by clicking here) has just 80 names as of noon pdt.

Those who have signed, offer comments like:

“My three year old son already knows that when that song comes on, it's time to snuggle up with dad and watch some hockey. What a travesty it would be if you were to take that away from our special little guy.”

Another   writes “Can we please keep SOME things the same in Canada? This is a part of our cultural identity...we, the people, want our hockey theme!”

There is word the two sides in the issue ( read previous story) are looking at a new agreement.   We will keep you posted.

Nice ... makes the copyrighted product even more expensive .... ;-)
signed sealed delivered!!! hope it makes a difference!!
Let's see... we have a government that has completely denied the voting public their right to debate on new legislation, our river rights are being sold to corporations for private hydro production, we have rats running around our hospitals due to privatized companies not keeping the facilities clean and the environment is going down the tube. However, what does every Canadian really get upset about? The loss of the song that heralds the start of the next hockey night in Canada. Never mind the people sleeping in the doorways of empty downtown businesses, just don't lose our favorite hockey theme. The Romans used the gladiators to keep the public focused on a circus while they ran about making themselves rich. What did we learn from history? Not a G.D. thing. Congratulations to all who have spent their time and energy on this issue while people are dying of poverty. Our society is absolutely morally corrupt and this is yet another sigh of the end. Thanks to all who have taken their eyes off the ball of what really is important. you should all be ashamed.
Sorry Realist, the world doesn't stop because other people are worse off. It takes about 30 seconds to sign a petition. That leaves a lot more time to worry about other important things in the world. Just because people are concerned about this doesn't mean they can't be concerned about other things.
but it is not just a petition, it all over the radio, television and newspapers. It has completely galvinized the Canadian public like no other issue. I personally agree that the theme is a Canadian classic and should be saved but how many people will sign this petition to save a Canadian theme when they don't bother to sign one to save our water rights. While we are distracted by this minor issue, we allow major issues to go right over our heads. We are clearly all sheep.
