Prince George- Minister of Transportation Kevin Falcon is in Prince George today celebrating the completion of the approach grading for the twinning of the Simon Fraser Bridge.

The bridge itself is not expected to be completed until the summer of 2009. It is part of the governments announced Caribou Connector and is being built at a cost of more than 40 million dollars.

Today Minister Falcon announced that IDL Contractors has been awarded a $4.7 million dollar contract to complete the approaches. That work will begin in August.

While he is here, maybe Mr. Falcon can explain why he isn't moving on the left turn that is so badly needed on Hwy 97.

Well... maybe its because Mr.Falcon is a Liberal...

Liberal governments only do "right" turns... NDP governments only do "left" turns... just so that the population doesn't get confused.

If the business's in the area want a left turn lane they will need to donate to the liberals during the next election. Of course if they talk to the NDP or any other party and make a deal with them for their support during the election, then perhaps the job can get done with their help and they can kill two birds with one stone. A left turn lane and someone new running our province. LOL
As it stands now it is hard to get the existing road damage repaired these days.
Back when the left turn was first asked for the highways said it was to dangerous to build a left turn lane. Then along comes Majors and the Casino, bang a whole intersection gets built in about the same location. Anyone see a possible connection or is it just me.
No, I don't see a connection. I see someone who has risked a lot of his money, building a casino and hotel, and hoping "they will come...". And of course, as soon as that happened, the city decided the intersection needed the work done, and it was a good time to do it.

No connection at all.

RISKED his money? On a CASINO (money printing plant)?

I wish I could take that kind of risk, but the tender process (gaming centre in Rupert?) doesn't seem to be very open.

Really tightly held, really. What, maybe 4 people run all the gaming in the province?
I think that Mr. V. found out that there are some risks in gaming .... the Odeon Theatre is sitting there sans a bingo and sans an additional gaming centre which it could be today.

I think everyone is capable of making a bad business decision, especially when the province holds all the cards.
One slot machine in the Carmel restaurant enough to justify a new left turn lane? It's a thought.
Mr V. found out the only risk in gaming was the province screwing you over. If Good Time was not allowed to immediately move into the place vacated by Mr. V, then Mr. V. would be in the money.

But it looks like the province found a way to concentrate ownership yet blame it on "market forces." The population was loyal to the location, not the operator.
It does not matter waht the cause of the risk is. It is still a risk.
"The population was loyal to the location, not the operator."

Loyalty to the location is an interesting notion. I wonder how the move from the Victoria site to the new 7th Avenue location is working, especially the addition of the casino component.
The difference is there is no one opening a gaming centre in the 4th and Victoria location. So the "downtown" bingo players still go downtown, and maybe some slot players from the Casino move to the gaming centre, but the money still goes to the monopoly.
Haven't you people taken a bit of a left turn here? ;>)
